How to boost growth of the Russian food machine building industry
The 5th Forum on Food Processing Machinery 2021: How to Increase Growth Rates? Was organised by the Rosspetsmash Association with the support from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and EXPOCENTRE AO. The event took place at the Agroprodmash 2021 International Exhibition.
Industry professionals and officials discussed pressing matters of the industry and results of the development of Russia’s food machine building enterprises in 2020 and presented an outlook for 2021.
“The food machine building industry has demonstrated some growth, production achievements and enlargement of exports, but there is still a lot of work to be done – Russian products account for only 20% of the domestic food equipment market. Foreign suppliers prevail, so we need to increase our share in the domestic market and to strengthen our standing in others. We will discuss at today’s forum what should be done to boost the industry growth,” Konstantin Babkin, plenary meeting moderator and Rosspetsmash Association president, said.
Sergey Mitin, deputy head of the Federation Council Committee on the Agrarian and Food Policy and Nature Management, said, for his part, “Four years ago, the Federation Council set up a commission on the development of the Russian food machine building industry. The commission encouraged the Russian government to approve a strategy for the development of the food machine building industry. However, a bigger funding of the industry was not discussed at the latest budgetary debate. Hence, lawmakers need a request from relevant ministries and the Rosspetsmash Association to support the call for larger allocations for the industry with arguments.”
Maria Yelkina, director of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade’s department for agricultural, food and road machine building industry, expressed hope that the forum would have a larger audience in the coming years.
“None of us will be able to make progress alone. We should elaborate a common stance and speak one voice, not as a separate legal entity,” Yelkina said.
The forum had a plenary meeting with the theme “Russian Food Machine Building Industry: How to Boost the Growth” and two thematic sections, “Current and Prospective Support: Problems and Solutions” and “Tempting and Inaccessible Engineering. How to Start Moving in this Direction.”
