25 / 09 / 2014

Discussion of tough issues on the fruit and vegetables processing market, prospects of the industry development and new trends of technologies development will be key topics of the Agroprodmash Conference on Latest Technologies and Equipment for Fruit and Vegetables Processing, which will be held on the 7th of October 2014 in SkyLight Hall at Expocentre.

Managers of agro-industrial companies, producers and processors of fruits and vegetables, suppliers of equipment for the production of fruit and vegetable raw materials and equipment for the storage and processing of products and representatives of research institutes will participate in the Conference.

Experts predict the growth of the market of canned food by 3% over the next five years. This is directly connected to the acceleration of the rhythm of life and the promotion of healthy lifestyle among the population. Nevertheless, currently existing production of canned products indicate a low loading level of canning companies in the country. A weak material and technical base of many organizations of food processing industry, inadequate storage, transport and handling of perishable raw materials does not allow creating optimal conditions for production.

Participants in the conference will discuss issues the industry is facing and solutions to them, as well as other countries practices and will share the experience.

In recent months, the structure of import of the Russian food market is undergoing major changes. This situation gives Russian producers a chance to increase their market share.

Elena Tyurina, Director of the Institute of Agricultural Marketing will tell more about new trends in the development of fruit and vegetable products and equipment in the light of current events.

The Russian market of fruit and vegetable processing products is very diverse. It includes canned fruits and vegetables, frozen products, baby food, juices and concentrates. One of the largest categories in terms of both consumption and domestic production and imports are canned vegetables and frozen vegetables whose consumption is 10.3 kg and 5 kg per person per year. In this case, the total volume of domestic production of canned vegetables is about 410,000 tons, while import volume is 665,000 tons. The production and import of frozen vegetables is about 40,000 tons and 98,000 tons respectively. Compared with the average consumption it shows that most of these products on the tables of Russian consumers still refer to home-made food. Nevertheless, the proportion of industrial products in this category grows year by year.

Irina Koziy, CEO of IA FruitNews, will present an overview of the industry and its segments in detail at the conference.

In recent years, baby food segment is among the fastest growing food markets, both in the world and in Russia. Speaking about Russia, this is due to an increase in fertility, as well as the increasing concern of parents about the quality and variety of child nutrition. Increased consumption of products intended for children feeding is a consequence of the women lifestyle change: more and more parents no longer spend time cooking, preferring ready mixtures, canned food and quick-cooking cereals.

Lyubov Patsyuk, leading researcher of the Russian Agricultural Academy, will tell more about new aspects in the production technology of canned baby food.

Shortage of time becomes a constant companion of modern life of a person. Accelerated pace of life has spurred the growth of the demand for snacks. Natalia Romashkina, Head of Fruit and Vegetable Processing Direction, Commercial Design ZAO, will review local market of fruit and vegetable snacks, perspectives of its development and will also talk about production of vegetable snacks with the use of Cold Dryer, which allows to obtain a product of the quality close to the raw materials.

Supply chain in a large company is one of the key values. Effective management of the supply chain is to monitor, whether raw materials were delivered on time and in the right amount, and if they are accessible for further work. This is especially important in the production and processing of agricultural products. Establishment of an effective supply chain of raw materials with Russian manufacturers will be the main topic of Deputy General Director for Production of Belaya Dacha Trading ZAO Guriy Shilov.

Issues of providing fruits and vegetables to the people are of a great importance in Russia, as they suffer from lack of many vitamins, minerals and other biologically active compounds. Particularly tough the problem is due to severe environmental and radiation conditions in some regions of the country. Therefore, introduction of new types of products with radio protective and inhibitory properties is a relevant and timely objective. These products are referred to as functional for their protective and preventive dietary functions by specialists.

The presentation made by Alla Kochetkova and Vladimir Bessonov, heads of Institute of Nutrition laboratories will be devoted to production of functional foods based on fruits and berries.

At present food processing and agro-industries face scientific and technical challenges to increase production of functional foods for improving food patterns and maintain the health of the Russian population. In these circumstances, it is very relevant to establish and actively introduce in the structure of nutrition different groups of functional confectionery products based on natural fruit and vegetable raw materials and will allow to get closer to solving the problem of healthy foods of the Russian population. The presentation of the Head of the Technology of Bread, Pasta and Confectionery Department of the Voronezh State University of Engineering Technology, professor Gazibeg Magomedov will cover this topic in his presentation.
